Dissolved oxygen concentration and eutrophication evaluation in Yamchi dam reservoir, Ardabil, Iran

Abstract One of the essential issues in quality management water resources is determination level eutrophication and dissolved oxygen dam reservoirs other bodies. It possible to study changes concentration using qualitative models. In this study, CE-QUAL-W2, a two-dimensional model hydrodynamics capable predicting behavior aquatic ecosystems, has been used simulate eutrophication. As case Yamchi reservoir, located Ardabil Province, qualitatively investigated CE-QUAL-W2 model. Based on geographical location it includes warm monomictic basins. According results, simulation period varied between 0 12 mg/L. autumn winter, was almost uniform at various depths. However, summer, sharp decrease concentration, less than 2 mg/L bottom layers, observed, which due presence nutrients. Regarding eutrophication, reservoir one eutrophic reservoirs, practical strategies should be employed improve these conditions. Recommended include reducing retention time dewatering from underlying layers during thermal stratification period, preventing entry agricultural drains into inlet tributaries reservoir.
